Domaine de La Borderie

La Borderie

Medieval hamlet on its hilltop enclosed in thousands of acres of woods,  hillsides and valleys, through witch you can walk freely. Famous for the edible mushrooms. No traffic, no neighbors, just absolute tranquility. There is a large enclosure where you may watch deer, gees, black swans and a variety of ducks. Unspoiled nature with more then thirty different orchids, numerous beautiful butterflies, red deer, roe deer, boars and badgers, foxes, martens etc.

The Dordogne has an enormous wealth of natural beauty, impressive and varied architecture (±1500 castles and manors, innumerable many churches and chapels etc.) and is particularly noted for its rich and delicious cuisine. But first of all the Dordogne, and in particular Les Eyzies, is the richest area for prehistoric archaeology in the whole of France and is even world-famous. You should not miss a visit to caves, some having cave paintings and drawings from early man (±18.000 years ago), others having the natural beauty of rock formations with stalagmites and stalactites. And still there are new discoveries, every year. For the active there exists canoeing, fishing, horse riding, cycling, tennis, golf, etc., all in the vicinity. However: in each house the guest will find a host of information about all kinds of events, sightseeing and activities.

La Borderie is found on the way from Les Eyzies to Le Bugue (D706) 7 KM out of Les Eyzies and then it still is 4 KM up hill.

The four restored, comfortable houses have their own privacy and are found near the  swimmingpool and close to a small roe-deer park. Each house is fully equipped with fridge, deep freezer, hotplate, oven, saucepans, dishes, cutlery, china and glasses, etc.. Also included is cleaning equipment, washing machine and ironing facilities. In three houses there is a dishwasher. The gardens and the terraces (also around the swimming pool) are fully equipped with comfortable long-chairs, tables and parasols. Barbecues are available. A baby’’s cot, a playpen and high chair we can offer if needed. Swimming and bathing apparel (i.e. belts) is not supplied. There is the possibility to add one or two beds in some of the houses. In each house the single beds have blankets/duvets, but we ask our guests to bring their own sheets, pillowcases and bath-towels. We do not supply radio or tape recorders, but you may use your own so long as you do not cause a nuisance to others. There is no telephone, but in emergency our phone and fax can be used. By arrangements your friends are welcome during certain hours, as we like to keep la Borderie quiet for the benefit of all our guests. Friends may not stay overnight, either in a house, a tent or caravan. In some cases pets are allowed but we like to know in advance. Heating for the early spring or late autumn is provided by the log fires, gas heaters or electric radiators. In real wintertime a part of the cost for this has to be paid by our guests. If you care to walk in the woods bring your wellingtons. Anyhow bring a torch and protective creams against the sun and the insects. Although la Borderie is surrounded by wooded hillsides with no neighbors or passing traffic, it is still within close proximity (±10 km) for shopping, restaurants, medical help, post office, bank etc.

The swimmingpool

There is a swimming pool (15 x 9 x 7 m; and 1,5 to 2m deep) for use of guests in all the houses. Both the pool and terrace have illumination for evening swimming. There is a table tennis, garden swings, slide and sandpit for the children.
